How to Assign a Static IP Address to Windows PC

Introduction

This article will take Windows 10 as example to describe two ways of assigning a static IP address to your PC. For other operating systems or more ways please refer to corresponding guides on the Internet. This configuration is required for Milesight products when:

  • Loggin the web GUI of device via Ethernet port (especially UG series, VS series)
  • Uboot upgrade to recovery abnormal systems
  • DHCP server of device is disabled

Or any other disconnection scenarios.

 

Configuration

Method 1:

1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet, click on Wi-Fi or Ethernet menu and select the current network connection.

 

2. Click Edit button and assign the IP settings as below example:


  • Manual
  • IPv4: On
  • IP address: a static IP address used by PC, this address should be the same subnet as the device connected to PC
  • Subnet prefix length: subnet mask. Usually it’s 24 (means 255.255.255.0) for Milesight products
  • Gateway: IP address of the device connected to PC
  • Preferred DNS/Alternate DNS (optional): DNS server address to resolve URL address. It is necessary to type if computer needs to use this device to access the Internet.

 

3. Save all above settings.

 

Method 2:

1. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center, click Change adapter settings.

2. Right-click the current network connection and select Properties.

3. Select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and assign the IP settings as below:

  • Use the following IP address
  • IP address: a static IP address used by PC, this address should be the same subnet as the device connected to PC
  • Subnet mask: usually it’s 255.255.255.0 for Milesight product access
  • Default Gateway: IP address of the device connected to PC
  • Preferred DNS/Alternate DNS Server(optional): DNS server address to resolve URL address 

4. Click OK to save all above settings.

Note:

1) If default IP address of Milesight device is conflict with your computer original network, please disconnect the computer’s network first.

2) Default Gateway option can be typed referring to below default settings of Milesight products:

  • Ethernet Port of UG Series: 192.168.23.150
  • Wi-Fi or LAN Port of UR/UF Series: 192.168.1.1
  • VS Series: 192.168.5.220
