IMPORTANT: The Things Network is moving to The Things Stack (V3). Registrations of new gateways in The Things Network V2 clusters will be disabled in June 2021. The Things Network V2 clusters will shut down in December 2021. For connecting Milesight gateways to TTN v3 please refer to following articles:

1. How To Connect Milesight Gateway to The Things Stack v3 via Basic Station

2. How To Connect Milesight Gateway to The Things Stack v3 via Semtech Packet Forwarder

Introduction

The Things Network provides two types of packet forwarders that can be running on Milesight LoRaWAN gateway:

  • Packet forwarders that connect using the Semtech UDP protocol (such as the Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder). This protocol is not encrypted, less reliable (UDP-based), but its simplicity makes it work on a large number of gateways.
  • Packet forwarders that connect using the new TTN Gateway Connector protocol (such as the TTN Packet Forwarder). This protocol is more secure, reliable and safer.

Trouble Shooting & FAQ

1. Cannot register gateway

If you switch back to the Gateways page without seeing the newly register gateway, you will probably also see the following error at the top right:

This means someone else has already registered with this Gateway ID or EUI. Please change a new ID or EUI in web GUI of Milesight gateway.

2. Could not see gateway GPS location

Milesight gateway updates GPS location data to network server every 10 minutes if it receives GPS signal. Please check if GPS antenna is installed correctly and gateway is placed outdoors or beside the windows that can receive GPS signal.

3. Could not connect via TTN packet forwarder

Discovery server address “discover.thethingsnetwork.org:1900” for TTN packet forwarder server is restricted to access by some Internet Service Providers. Please contact your ISP and TTN for more information about it.
